Cymbidium kanran - by David Lapsley
Cymbidium kanran is an evergreen terrestrial orchid which grows under evergreen trees in the south part of Japan     In its natural habitat it therefore likes warmth, although its name means "cold orchid"   It is very much appreciated by Japanese enthusiasts and is widely grown as an indoor pot plant.
It needs a well drained compost, likes a shady place throughout the year and must have a cool place in summer.
We grow it in composted bark  with good drainage. It is kept on a window sill in our utility room which has no heat, and we bring it into our conservatory as it comes into bloom.   This is its fourth year, and its second to bloom.
